Designing to lift people up
Equitable Race Course
See the built project in action
Check out some photos of the final built racecourse and a video from Bozeman Sunrise Rotary Club where you can hear what participants think of participating in the HRDC BOAR Race!
A series of obstacles were designed to challenge, engage, and entertain race participants with a wide variety of physical abilities.
I worked with five of my peers in the MSU freshman honors architecture class under professor Brian Brush. Each student prepared several obstacles and HRDC selected which projects would be built. The work presented on this page are solely my design entries, the water climbing wall was selected to be a flagship obstacle for the race.
The obstacles were created to be both accessible and help race participants consider the challenges facing homeless youth.
Most obstacles include a route that is accessible for participants in a wheelchair or pushing a stroller. Routes of differing challenge show participants that not every path we walk in the world is as easy or hard as another’s path.
